Chichen Itza is a well known city made by the Mayan people in the Pre-Columbian era. It is one of the Seven Wonders of the World situated in Mexico. It is a great example of the Mayan architecture and one of the oldest surviving cities in the world. One of the most famous attractions is the largest pyramid there, El Castillo, which is dedicated to Kukulkan. What helped it survive all these years? It’s amazing architecture style. What did the architecture style use? Simple Geometry.
Architecture in the Chichen Itza
Chichen Itza follows the famous Puuc architecture, which is famous for its use of geometrical shapes. In the buildings following this style of architecture, the lower façade is made of rectangular slabs of the same size and the upper faced is made up of the mosaic of many geometric shapes such as triangles, squares, pentagons etc.
This type of architecture is found in the ruins of the cities made by Mayan people, which are mostly found in present day Mexico and Northern parts of South America.
The Chichen Itza is surely one the most breathtakingly beautiful sites to see in this modern world. It displays the wonders of our rich past and though we know a lot about this wonder, we have still yet to know many things in splendid mystery from our past.
